Closing Time at the Queen's head in Bromsgrove Road, Redditch. In the days when Norman frequented pubs for his favourite tipple of beer and this drawing was completed the pubs had a closing time of 2.30pm so the doors would close and the drinkers would stand around outside the pub before going back to work.

The driveway to the Redditch Brickworks was at the side of the pub and Norman would have visited the Queen's Head in the 1950's when he was experimenting with pottery and firing in the brickyard kilns. See references to other works in this exhibition, especially the Quarrymen.

The men in the drawing would have been sketched at the time and were very much characters of this era in Norman's life, not fictional
