Hewell Paper Mills

Stipple Watercolour - Signed and dated 1947

Image Area: 10ins x 15ins

Hewell Paper Mills were originally part of Hewell Grange which was in turn part of Bordesley Abbey. The Cottages are still there today but there is no longer paper production in the area

This painting is unusual in that it is a crayon stipple and each individual dot merges together to make the finished work. It took Norman much longer to finish this compared with his watercolours or gauche paintings but he was experimenting with all sorts of painting methods whilst teaching students at Birmingham Art College
